Philly Tours by Founders / Founders Threads works across walking tours, cultural history, schools, churches, hotels, civic groups, and America 250 programming. These are independent contractor roles with flexible scheduling based on bookings, projects, and partner needs.

Position 01

Freelance Tour Guide

Lead walking and cultural history tours throughout Philadelphia, including Revolutionary Philadelphia, Black American history, the Underground Railroad, public art, architecture, historic neighborhoods, and America 250.

Responsibilities

  • Lead walking tours and specialty history experiences.
  • Present historical stories in an engaging, accurate, and respectful way.
  • Follow approved tour routes, scripts, timing, and safety guidelines.
  • Welcome guests and create a professional visitor experience.
  • Manage group movement between stops.
  • Communicate availability, tour updates, and guest concerns promptly.

Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking and storytelling skills.
  • Interest in Philadelphia history, American history, Black history, arts, culture, or tourism.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional.
  • Comfortable walking for 1-3 hours.
  • Able to learn tour routes, scripts, and historical materials.
  • Tour guide, teaching, museum, performance, hospitality, or public speaking experience preferred.

Paid per completed tour or booking assignment. Rate depends on tour type, length, group size, and experience.

Position 02

Freelance National & International Outreach Associate

Help Philly Tours build national and international relationships with travel planners, cultural partners, schools, churches, hotels, visitor desks, bookstores, libraries, museums, campuses, alumni circles, civic organizations, and America 250 audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Identify national and international organizations that may want tours, talks, routes, or cultural history programs.
  • Make warm, professional outreach by email, phone, direct message, or in-person introductions.
  • Help coordinate partner conversations, group inquiries, and follow-up notes.
  • Share approved Philly Tours materials with potential partners and community contacts.
  • Track leads, availability, responses, and useful context clearly.
  • Support outreach to travelers, institutions, and groups planning Philadelphia visits from outside the region.

Qualifications

  • Clear, friendly communication and follow-through.
  • Interest in Philadelphia, American history, Black history, cultural tourism, education, or hospitality.
  • Comfortable reaching out to organizations and starting practical conversations.
  • Organized enough to track contacts, next steps, and partner needs.
  • Sales, tourism, travel planning, community organizing, campus, nonprofit, hospitality, or events experience is helpful.

Compensation is project-based and may vary by assignment, lead type, booking outcome, and experience.
